SOFT LIGHT CITY
MUSIC STUDIO BUILD | PROJECT MANAGEMENT
With studios in Cape Town and London, Soft Light City services the communications industry with original music, production music, sound design and final mixing services.
SLC wanted to expand and upgrade their studio space at their Studio A (Durbanville) and Studio B (Woodstock) locations. I was appointed as Studio Manager on the project and over a 7- month period we managed to upgrade both studios into world-class music production facilities.
STUDIO A
BEFORE
Studio A was based in the hills of Durbanville, Cape Town. The plan was to convert the living room into the control room and the double garage into a large live-room. The upgrade included raising the roof by 0.5 meters and working closely with acoustic specialists to offer the perfect acoustic spaces.
AFTER
The end result is something of which I am very proud. We went with a pine wood finish on the walls complemented with earth tone fabric diffuser panels across both rooms. Being a recording studio we had to source super quiet aircon units with double ducting. We also designed our own super soundproofing doors. Since the completion of the studio, it has seen a plethora of local and international artists, creating music and audio which will live on forever.
STUDIO B
RENOVATIONS
Studio B was based in Woodstock, Cape Town and the upgrade was more of a cosmetic upgrade of the space. We upgraded the control room and converted a large open space to 3 offices and a client waiting/entertainment room.
